The diploma work describes the synthesis of hydroxypiridinium salts. The starting compounds used are pyridin-2-one (2hpy), 3-hydroxypyridine (3hpy) or 2-amino-3-hydroxypyridine (2ahpy) and hydrochloric acid. Two known compounds have been prepared: 2-hydroxypyridinium chloride and 2-hydroxypyridinium chloride hydrate, and new compounds: 3-hydroxypyridinium chloride, 2-amino-3-hydroxypyridinium chloride and their hydrates. All were crystallized in the air and crystals were extracted from the solutions. The composition and structure of the crystals were determined by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray powder analysis and CHN analysis. X-ray structural analysis was used to determine the structure of 2-amino-3-hydroxypyridinium chloride hydrate. Thermal analysis was used to determine the melting point of the prepared salts and the mechanism of decomposition. Among the isolated salts, only 2-hydroxypyridinium chloride is an ionic liquid.
