In this diploma we present the concept of the virtual gallery and its evolution through time. In the first half we use examples and literature analysis to introduce and contrast the technologies used to construct these galleries. We also look at the design elements that make up a good user experience, as well as advanced technologies that provide the visitor with the most immersive experience. In the second half we focus on NFTs (Non-fungible tokens) and blockchain technology, introduce examples of galleries that use these technologies, and examine the ideas in constructing decentralized applications. We present an overview of the decentralized trading ecosystem of NFTs and their practical applications, benefits and the troubles they face. Through this examination we want to provide the reader with an overview of the subject, with which they will choose appropriate technologies for their own implementation.
