Abstract

Title:Radio journalist as a user of language resources
Abstract:
In the field of linguistics and language technologies, the last twenty years can be described as the era of language resources. This period saw the creation of a number of digitally accessible dictionaries, portals, tools and services also for the Slovene language, intended for both professional and non-professional language users. The aim of the Master's thesis was to find out what the knowledge, opinion, use and needs of radio journalists are in relation to eight selected language resources for Slovene, namely the portal Fran, Govorni pomočnik, Gigafida 2.0, Slovar sopomenk sodobne slovenščine, Kolokacijski slovar sodobne slovenščine, the Pons dictionaries, portal Termania and Slovarji.si. We used three research methods: Survey, interviews and think- aloud method, all conducted on a sample of journalists from Val 202. It turned out that the journalists from Val 202 know portal Fran best and use it the most in their work, while they are less or not at all familiar with all the other eight sources. The usability, clarity, speed of data display and some other features of the resources with which the journalists were familiar were in the survey and interviews highly rated, while the usability and intuitiveness of the five resources included in the last research method were highly rated only for Fran and Termania, which are the most similar to the "classic" dictionaries (Fran is also the most known). On the other hand, when speaking about Gigafida 2.0, Slovar sopomenk sodobne slovenščine and Kolokacijski slovar sodobne slovenščine we can speak of low intuitiveness.
