This paper examines standpoints of students enrolled in the master’s study of social work regarding the concept of social work in a work environment. Focusing on the reasons behind their standpoints and their presuppositions about the importance of social work in a work environment and the importance of this field in comparison to other subfields of social work. The concept of social work in a work environment is defined in the theoretical part and relevant theoretical findings in this field are listed. The following empirical part gathers in depth writings of 10 students utilising the method of focus groups and non-probability convenience sampling. The findings were based on a qualitative analysis of the attained writings. All students have been found to agree on the importance of social work in a work environment, while some regarded it as very important. Similarly, all participants agreed, that social work in a work environment is of equal importance to other fields of social work, while a minority taught this area of study to be of higher importance. These standpoints of students are mainly based on knowledge gained from their studies, their own experience in certain work environments, study related internships and the consequences or effects that social work has in a work environment.
