Fused deposition modeling or Fused filament fabrication is one of the most commonly used technologies in the world of 3D printing. It is used to 3D print thermoplastics, including products made from polyvinyl alcohol polymer. These have been shown to have very poor strength properties after production using the process parameters recommended by the filament manufacturer, with delamination occurring at low loads across the product layers. In our work, we investigated the influence of the choice of 3D printing process parameters to improve the adhesion of the product layers. We focused on the influence of ambient temperature. This was controlled and varied using a silicone heater that was mounted under the 3D printer head. By tensile testing, we found that an increase in ambient temperature has a positive effect on the adhesion of the product layers.
