When working with mobile cranes, we still rely on the experience of the lift operator, without
any plan being drawn up. The aim of the thesis is to develop a BIM model that shows the
obstacles, which can be overlooked during the site survey. With these, we increase the safety
when working with mobile cranes.
The theoretical part includes a brief description of BIM tools, what mobile cranes are, and what
types of mobile cranes we know. We compare the advantages and disadvantages of cranes
and mobile cranes, describe the process of obtaining a license to operate a mobile crane and
review the current regulations on safety at work with cranes. At the same time, we also review
the statistics on worldwide accidents.
In the practical part, we focus on the creation of a BIM model that could make working with
mobile cranes easier and reduce the chances of accidents. In the model, we have marked
dangerous areas where the mobile crane would not be stable, all public infrastructure and
manholes, the final position of the load, and shown the load lines to where the lift can move
the load. We compare the costs and benefits of such a model and finally interview the owner
of a mobile crane company for his expert opinion.
