Abstract
V teoretičnem delu sem opredelila pojem olimpizma in elemente medijskega ter športnega spektakla, pojasnila sem povezavo med športom in nacionalizmom ter utemeljila slovensko smučarsko tradicijo. Opredelila sem tudi posebnosti športnega novinarstva in predstavila časnik Delo. V empiričnem delu naloge sem analizirala poročanje o smučanju na olimpijskih igrah v Lillehammerju 1994 in olimpijskih igrah v Pjongčangu 2018 v časniku Delo.

Title:The Spectacularization of the Olympic Games: An Analysis of Media Coverage of Skiing in the Lillehammer 1994 and PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games in Delo Newspaper : magistrsko delo
Abstract:
In the age of technological advances, such as the ability to watch television with a delay, sport remains the only media content that viewers still watch live. Major competitions, especially the Olympic Games, are a special phenomenon since they are typically watched by those who do not follow a certain sport outside the framework of the Olympic Games. My master's thesis therefore researched the spectacularization of the Olympic Games. I was interested in how the spectacle developed in the context of the Slovenian skiing tradition. In the theoretical part, I defined the concept of Olympism and the elements of the media- and sport spectacle, explained the connection between sport and nationalism, and defined the Slovenian skiing tradition. I also defined the specifics of sport journalism and presented Delo newspaper. In the empirical part of the thesis, I analysed the media coverage of skiing in the Olympic Games in Lillehammer 1994 and the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang 2018 in Delo newspaper. Using a critical discourse analysis, I looked for elements of the spectacle, which I defined in the theoretical part and compared them with each other. Key differences emerged in the representation of the athletes in reporting on skiing in the 1994 and 2008 Olympic Games, the expectations of the media for the athletes, the attitude towards previous Olympic Games and the justification of the skiing tradition.
