Reactions of copper(II) quinaldinate with piperazines were performed. The used piperazines were 1-methylpiperazine, 1-ethylpiperazine, 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine and piperazine. Reactions were carried out in autoclaves at 105 °C or at ambient conditions. In the latter case, the mixtures were mixed throughout the whole reaction time. The 1-methylpiperazine reactions afforded [Cu(quin)2(1-Mepz)2], whereas the 1-ethylpiperazine reactions led to [Cu(quin)2(1-Etpz)2]·1/2CH3CN. The 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine reaction mixtures did not afford complexes with this ligand. The autoclave reaction with piperazine produced a compound that most likely contained both the quinaldinate and piperazine, whereas at ambient conditions similar product was obtained but not in a pure form
