In today's way of life people frequently experience stress, its negative symptoms, lack of concentration, and poorer attention, which requires a lot of productivity and energy from us. This can lead to the occurrence of other psychological and mental disorders, particularly depression and anxiety, which is why they frequently decide to purchase herbal food supplements and medicines. They are available in pharmacies and other shops, so it is critical that they select the most appropriate product for themselves, one that is both effective and safe, which is a significant challenge not only for customers but also for pharmacists employed in pharmacies due to simplified registration procedures and non-harmonised legislation in the field of food supplements. The purpose of the master's thesis was to examine the composition and evaluate the efficiency and safety of products that appear on the Slovenian market and contain at least one medicinal plant that affects the functioning of the nervous system. We looked at 43 dietary supplements and 9 herbal medicines that contain individual medicinal plants or combinations of them, as well as other ingredients that can help the nervous system. We examined their composition and described in greater detail the 20 plants that appeared most frequently in the products alone or in combinations. We then determined effective doses that relieve individual symptoms based on expert literature and assessed the effectiveness of the products themselves. When reviewing the products we discovered that 45 products are effective, including all herbal medicines, and 49 are safe products out of 52, though some confirmed different or fewer effects than those reported by manufacturers of food supplements. Those whose doses were equal or higher and whose efficancy and safety were confirmed in the reviewed studies were considered effective and safe. The majority of the reviewed products (34.6 %) successfully relieve symptoms of mental stress and have a positive effect on sleep disorders (30.8 %). The most commonly used plant is Valerian, which belongs to sedatives and has the most researched and confirmed effects, while among other plants, St John's wort and Ginkgo have clinically proven effectiveness, so we recommend products containing these plants. When using St. John’s wort, we would point out a number of potential interactions with medicines. The majority of the products (27 products) contain one medicinal plant, and the most commonly found plants in the combination are 8. Among other ingredients, the most common are vitamin B5 (17.3 % of products), vitamin B6 (30.8 % of products), and vitamin B12 (17.6 % of products).
