Abstract

Title:
Heat stress at work in agriculture
Abstract:
Heat stress is not just a big problem for the agricultural industry but also a global problem. Heat stress can be well monitored by various indicators such as UTCI, WGBT and HWMId. Workers do physical work on hot days and they are exposed to heat, humidity and solar radiation. Most of the workers have a lot of work every day because the yield can’t wait. They often do not wear protective clothing, they don’t take enough breaks to rest, don’t drink enough water and they are not using any methods for cooling down. This leads to many illnesses which can lead to death if the early symptoms are not recognized. However, farmers or agricultural workers and others who works outdoors, don’t have enough information on what prolonged exposure to heat could cause and how to protect themselves effectively. There aren’t enough aware workers at a national and global level who can recognized the symptoms of a heatstroke. There also aren’t enough trained people who can provide effective help to a worker who shows the first signs of a heat stroke before medical staff arrive.
