The thesis is an attempt of an overview of archaeology of the modern Vrhnika area, from the end of late Prehistory to the late Antiquity. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is the theoretical descriptive part, which presents geomorphology and hidrology of the area, the transcontinental communication network in Antiquity, previous researches, discusses the ancient literary sources and outlines political-administrative, military and economic history of the researched time frame. The second part presents archaeological record of selected sites, which are crucial for our understanding of every day life of the ancient inhabitants. The end of the thesis in an attempt of collecting the mentioned phenomenos into one archaeological overview of nowadays Vrhnika.
