The purpose of this diploma thesis was to explore, whether the usage of motion with graphic design contributes towards better effectiveness and communicativeness of the medium in question. Thesis covers the fields of animation, graphic design and graphics in motion. It also examines the role of communication in urban places and the impact of poster upon public city life. In the theoretical part we presented advertising, with special focus on outdoor advertising. Next, we explained the term of animation, described its division and the importance of animation in advertising. We concluded the theoretical part with a description of posters, features, the definition and characteristics of an animated poster, the role of poster in society and the impact of posters in public spaces in urban areas. The experimental part firstly covers the presentation of the Cankarjev dom, with whom we collaborated for the purpose of this thesis. Next we presented materials that we used throughout the designing process and the complete workflow starting with designing an animated graphic poster and then to the analysing of the final product using the Expoze online software tool as well as an online survey. We also analysed good examples of effective animated poster campaigns and concluded the experimental part with presentation of the static posters chosen for transformation into motion posters. The result of the experimental work in the diploma thesis is the analysis of effectiveness of animated posters in conveying a message. At the end of the thesis we presented heatmaps separatelly for static and animated posters and analyse of the survey's results, to demonstrate the difference in participant's recollection of static and animated poster.
