In the social work's field of Child and family safeguarding and Child protection we often meet a child who has experienced witnessing intimate partner violence by their father (or their mother's new partner) over the mother. Research shows that witnessing violence over a parent is often a traumatic experience that leaves a mark on the child and his or her’s development, and affects the psychological, health and social outcomes of the child in adulthood. For the purpose of my thesis, I conducted research on adults who, as children, experienced witnessing intimate partner violence over their parent. I want to contribute to the awareness of this topic in the social work’s field of Child and family safeguarding and Child protection with their stories - and thus provide a better responsiveness and quality of social work in this field at social work centres.
