Unknown tool wear in a turning process is frequently the cause of production of parts with inadequate geometrical and surface finish demands. This problem can be solved by introducing a system for tool wear detection. In the lower price range, there is currently no such system avalible on the market. The goal of this assignment is to build a system for measuring vibrations of the cutting tool and to find its correlation to the wear impacting the tool. For this purpose we have built a measuring system based on the Arduino Uno microcontroller and the PVDF strain gauge and wrote a code for signal processing in the programming language Python. We have measured vibrations during the tool's lifespan while turnning different materials and evaluated the results.
