This master thesis explores the reading of literary texts, which can be either in linear or non-linear reading. In this study the main focus is on the reading of poetry and short story collections by three groups – readers, editors, and authors of books. In the theoretical part, both reading methods, the internal and external structure of both literary genres, and the communication circle of the book are defined.
In the empirical part, with the use of the semi-structured interview method, it is explored in which other proposed ways the three groups read, whether there are any differences in the ways of reading and between the individual groups of interviewees, and which factors influence the clasification of texts in the common book. The thesis also analyzes what is a good distribution of literary works, either in the poetry collection or in the collection of short stories.
