The goal of the paper is to develop and design a linear axis, using the principles of engineering design. The linear axis must be able to operate and move a load according to the parameters, defined by the design specifications. The load, moved by the axis, shall simulate the static and kinematic conditions of the other axes of a CNC machine. The development process of the axis was divided into the following phases: conceptual design, calculation, 3D model design, detailing, making drawings and manufacturing of the linear axis. Measurements were taken to check whether the axis meets the set requirements. The results showed that the linear axis fully meets the specified parameters by the design specifications.
