The main goal of this undergraduate thesis is to present the importance of incorporating the philosophical perspective in neuroscientific research, which indirectly or directly influences the course of discussion of philosophical issues. This thesis is divided into three main parts. The first part presents the introduction of neuroscience and the use of its vocabulary in the fields of philosophy and psychology. The researchers usually investigate the relations between the brain and mental processes using functional brain imaging. In the second part the interdisciplinary field of cognitive science is presented. The term interdisciplinarity is brought forth and analyzed, as it is crucial that we understand how scientists from different disciplines, i.e., natural science, social science, technology, and liberal art, collaborate and why the collaboration is important. The focus is on the role of philosophy in cognitive science. Philosophy differs from other disciplines by its method of conceptual analysis and by being able to look at the whole picture. The third part presents the discussion on the interpretations of neuroscientific research of the free will problem.
