In a qualitative study entitled Help for children who experienced domestic violence, I explore what kind of help is available to children who experienced domestic violence. Family is supposed to be a safe place filled with love, respect and support, but for many, family is a source of fear and suffer. Violence leaves both short- and long-term consequences on the child's life, which affects many aspects of it and also has an impact in adult life. In my thesis, I first focus on family definitions and family typologies. I also describe the definition of the family member on whom this work focuses, namely the child. I open up the topic of domestic violence and forms of violence and continue on child violence and forms of violence. In the following I describe what consequences the violence has on the child. I investigate what kind of help is available to children with the experience of domestic violence. I conclude the theoretical introduction with an overview of the creative means that can be used in working with children. I have spoken to social workers working in this area about the help available to children with the experience of domestic violence and gained data for the empirical work of the research.
