History and toxicological properties of boron compounds were presented in the first part of the article. In the second one fungicidal (blue stain and decay fungi), insecticidal and termiticidal properties of boron (B) and its compounds are described. At the end wood preservatives on the basis boron compounds produced by Slovenian producers are described. However, despite of the long tradition of boron utilisation for wood preservatives, commercial solution for
improving boron fixation in wood is not available yet. This is the most important drawback of boron based wood preservative solutions. Therefore, it is one of the most important future goals to find method or technique for preventing boron leaching. This would even increase its usage, as boron fully fulfils all environmental demands.
