Rail transport in Europe must follow the requirements of modern logistics approaches.
It must ensure the fast and safe transport of goods and people, while at the same time
being cost-effective. The objectives of establishing a single trans-European rail network
are a precondition for a wider reorientation of freight flows to the railway sector.
Discrepancies in the development and diversification of railway infrastructure represent
obstacles that will need to be addressed in a planned and targeted manner. Such a region
is also the south-eastern part of Europe, fragmented between several countries. National
networks are differently developed, and the planned investments in network
modernization are different. The diploma thesis analyzes the diversity of the railway
network in South - Eastern Europe and highlights key development projects.
