Slovenia’s independence is one of the key events in the history of Slovenia, both for the formation of the state, as well as for the formation of national consciousness and the collective memory of Slovenians. Collective memory is not necessarily personally experienced, as it can also be conveyed through cultural memory or intergenerational memory. In my dissertation I studied the remembrance of Slovenia’s independence among students of Gimnazija Ravne na Koroškem. For the purpose of research, I set up some hypotheses that helped me set research frameworks. I conducted a survey among students of Gimnazija Ravne na Koroškem. The analysis of the results showed that students do not pay that much attention to the remembrance of Slovenia’s independence. Only a small percentage of students seek information about Slovenia’s independence, they learn most about this topic in schools and through conversations with parents or grandparents. They rarely study other forms of cultural memory. However, their knowledge of the subject is quite good. Thus, from the analysis of the results, we can say that Slovenia’s independence still has a major role in shaping the collective memory of Slovenians.
