Kajetan Kovič based his poetry heavily on mythic imagery. In this, he was not alone, but walked in the footsteps of the well-documented Central European tradition, especially two other Central European poets Georg Trakl and Rainer Maria Rilke. While through the myth of Orpheus his poetry is more closely connected to the latter, the myth of incestuous brother-sister love and desire relates him to the controversial work of the Austrian expressionist.
