Symbolism is a way of how humans initially communicated by using various drawings,
known as symbols. It has been, and still is, one of the most fundametal parts of what binds our
society together. Moreover, because sybolism preceeded the written word, its meaning trought
time had not lost any of its influence troughout time, as many official goverenment as well as
market based entities still use it to this very day to express their status in society. The purpose
fo this research is to specifically analyze the usage of symbolism in the slovene public sector,
followed by a more thorough examination of the usage of symbols within the slovene local
self management sector, i.e. municipalities, where the usage is most widespread. The main
goal however remains the research and examination for the political and historcial
background on which the symbols adopted were initially formed. This will result in this
research paper being a qualitative comparative analysis. We are most interested in political
decisions and historical occurences which led to certain municipalities adopting certain
symbols by introducing them individually and then cross-examining their characteristics.
Furthermore, we are interested in the evolution of the slovene self-management sector and
how it affected the usage of said symbols.
