'Pinot noir' or 'Modri burgundec' is one of the recommended grapevine varieties (Vitis
vinifera L.) in Štajerska Slovenija winegrowing district. Taking into account data from
Register of grape and wine producers (RPGV), Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of
Slovenija (KGZS MB) and Bakhus database, we presented the vineyard area, quantity
and chemical quality parameters of grape and wine of the 'Pinot noir' grapevine variety
from the Štajerska Slovenija winegrowing district of Slovenija. In the winegrowing
region of Štajerska Slovenija, 127 ha are currently planted with 'Pinot noir' variety, which
represents 55 % of vineyards with 'Pinot noir' in Slovenija. According to the RPGV data
for the period 2006-2021, vineyards area with 'Pinot noir' variety in Štajerska Slovenija
district has increased. Data, obtained from KGZS MB, shows that the average weight of
100 berries of 'Pinot noir' in 2018-2020 was 74.5 g, with a total sugar content of 16.8
°Brix and total acidity 10.9 g/l. The production of pinot noir wine has not increased over
the last decade, with an annual average production of 246.617 l of pinot noir in Štajerska
Slovenija district. 'Pinot noir' wines analysed over a ten-year period (2010-2020) contain
average 12.8 vol. % of alcohol, 5.7 g/l sugars and 5.9 g/l total aciditys. The most share
(68 %) of pinot noir wine produced in Štajerska Slovenija winegrowing district is
qualified as a high quality wine.
