Nowdays the polycrystalline diamond tools or shorter PCD tools are every day, more present in the industry. It can be used on many different application in industry. We can machine a lot of different materials with them, except steel. They give us high machinability and long durability. Until few years ago, PKD tools have mostly been manufactured by wire EDM and grinding. In recent years, laser machines designed specifically for manufacturing this type of tools, appeared on the market. They allow us to produce wider range of different cutting tools and enable the production of higher quality cutting edge of the cutting tool.
Laser machines are much more expensive than wire EDM machines, so the goal of this thesis is to make a cutting edge of a cutting tool with wire EDM that has quality comparable to the cutting edge, made with laser machine. Unfortunately, we didn’t get all the desired results. We improve the roundness of cutting edge and determined more economical machining parameters for producing PCD cutting tools, with wire EDM machine.
