The aim of this thesis was to assess students' knowledge in the field of clinical and sports nutrition, and nutritional supplements. We surveyed 125 students of the University of Ljubljana from the Biotechnical Faculty, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Sports. Information about the students' knowledge was obtained through an online questionnaire, which was divided into four segments and contained a total of seventeen questions. The results of the questionnaire have shown that the largest differences in knowledge among students of different faculties occurred while answering questions about clinical nutrition, while the smallest differences were in the domain of nutritional supplements. The results of the entire questionnaire showed that the students from the Faculty of Medicine displayed the best knowledge about nutrition (compared with surveyed students from other faculties). The obtained data revealed that most students lack general knowledge about nutrition. The surveyed population also had difficulties answering specific questions which require knowledge of terminology and professional definitions in the field of human nutrition. It is also worth mentioning that most students did not understand the difference between dietary concepts in the field of nutrition. More than half the students understood that nutritional assessment is the cornerstone that needs to be previously performed in order to give out personal nutritional counselling. Most students answered that during their studies they didn't get enough knowledge about nutrition and that they are not able to offer nutritional counselling. More than half of the surveyed population reported that they wanted more school subjects which would include content on human nutrition in their field of study.
