In the following paper, I discuss the theme of Korean popular culture with a focus on music. The Korean pop culture phenomenon has become widespread throughout the world. The most dominant is music. Korean dramas and films are popular as well. Some of them were also filmed in Slovenia. This hybrid type of music with well-made videos and stage appearances enables a new way of experiencing music by young women. Behind this perfection, a lot of hard work, sleepless nights, diets, and slave contracts are hidden. The rise of interest in K-pop can also be detected in Slovenia.
The purpose of this thesis is to present an insight into the Slovenian K-pop scene. In this assignment, I try to answer the question of whether the influence of Korean popular culture in relationship with sexual discourse is liberal or whether it merely reproduces female stereotypes. At the same time, I also question whether it widens female cultural space or whether it restrains it. I pay special attention to how K-pop affects individuals in Slovenia and whether the consumption model of Korean popular culture differs from other countries or whether there is something specifically Slovenian about it.
