Naslov:Experiencing anger in adult children of alcoholics
Izvleček:
In this master thesis, we have been researching how adult children of alcoholics’ experience anger. We are talking about adults, who lived with at least one parent in their childhood, who had problems with alcohol dependence. There is not much research that would talk about how adult children of alcoholics experienced their childhood. With this master's thesis, we wanted to provide insight into how adult children of alcoholics perceive parental dependence in the past and today, and feel anger towards the parent of an alcoholic or independent parent and how they deal with it.With the help of a qualitative phenomenological method, based on the research of the experience of a certain phenomenon, we used semi-structured interviews in the second part of the research to gain insight into the experience of participants who had experience growing up with alcoholic parents. Five female participants participated in the study. The results of the research showed that each of the participants felt anger towards the parent because of his alcohol dependence, which left negative consequences in the family, their relationships and life. The participants feel anger knowing that their parents were emotionally and physically absent in their childhood. It also angers them that as a family they were not a good enough reason to end the alcoholic parent’s addiction. Anger also occurs when it is impossible to change the thinking and the behaviour of an alcoholic parent and the interdependent parent, as well as the bad relationships that have arisen due to the presence of alcohol dependence in the family. Anger towards an independent parent is present due to the interdependence and support for the alcoholic partner. It stems primarily from a desire that the independent parent should stand up for himself/herself and their children.
