Abstract
Many well-known alternative ideas about basic astronomical concepts are still circulating (or rather, being reborn again and again) among the student population worldwide, despite the efforts of teachers and researchers to uncover the pitfalls of established teaching methods, to expose possible misconceptions and to invent new teaching strategies that would help students move from firmly rooted alternative conceptions to scientific understanding.
