The population of the developed world is ageing. With low birth rates and longer life expectancy, we are facing new challenges on how to ensure the highest quality ageing for the elderly, and at the same time relieve pressure on existing forms of institutional care and relatives. One of the possible solutions for ensuring quality ageing in the home environment is remote care. The purpose of this thesis is to determine the adequacy and applicability of existing remote care solutions and to verify the opinions and wishes of users.
The thesis is divided into two parts: a theoretical part, which comprises a study of domestic and foreign literature on the issue of population ageing, the impact of demographic changes on society and the quality of life of the elderly in Slovenia. Addressing possible solutions to existing problems in this area through the presentation and analysis of remote care solutions present on the market. In the empirical part, a survey is used to research the opinion of existing and potential users of remote care and based on the answers given through the presentation and synthesis of results, proposals for improving the situation in this field are presented.
The results provide important findings on the knowledge and use of remote care. Respondents find this method of care useful and for those who use such a service, it facilitated concern for a family member. Most respondents, whose relatives already live in one form of elderly care believe, that the use of remote care could prolong the stay at its own home. These findings can be useful in further use, marketing and development of remote care, as they give the developers of remote care solutions insight into how users see remote care and what they find useful, while enabling better demographic management in the country and society.
