The thesis presents the development of fishing and fish processing industry in Izola. The
emphasis is on the development of fishing and fish processing industry after the year 1950, but
to understand the importance of fishing in this area, the development before the year 1950 is
also presented. Fishing and fish processing industry represents the heritage of the town Izola
and other coastal towns and villages. The first fish processing factory in Izola was established
in 1883, later a few more factories were built. In different periods, these factories operated once
on a smaller scale, other times on a larger scale, depending on the period. Factories merged,
changed names, and smaller factories operated only for a short time. Delamaris was the longest running factory in Izola. In 2014 the production was moved to Pivka. Today in Izola, there are
no fish processing factories, and fishing in this area is in poor condition. The buildings of the
fish processing factories that still stand in Izola, are slowly falling into disrepair. An interactive
fishing museum is to be set up in Izola, which would represent the importance of heritage of
the fishery and fish processing industry in the area.
