Abstract
Velike moto dirke z okoli 30.000 gledalci konec 60. in v začetku 70. let 20. stoletja so bile na svojem začetku konec 50. let majhna lokalna prireditev.

Title:Development of motorsport in Goriška region (1958-1985)
Abstract:
This master thesis focuses on the development of motorsport in Goriška region trough description of three completely different disciplines of motorsport. The big international races in the end of 1960s and start of 1970s with about 30.000 spectators were small local races at the beginning in the end of 1950s. Closeness to border was an advantage and not an obstacle for this event. Soon in second edition in 1959 the Italian racers appeared in this race which was growing from year to year. The races became one of the biggest in Yugoslavia quality and quantity wise. There were many racers from all over the Europe, South and North America, Africa, Australia and New Zealand racing in the small town of Nova Gorica. Closeness of border and great Italian racers attracted many spectators from the Italian part of border to watch this spectacle. Reports from the newspapers show us that town lived for the races and the atmosphere was festive. Picturesque reports from the Italian newspapers show us that Italian public near the border was very interested in the events. They called the racers “centaurs”. Despite the decline of great moto races in the early 1970s the Auto moto club of Nova Gorica was still active in organizing sport events. From the end of 1960s they started organizing karting events in the town centre. These events attracted less people but they were much cheaper and easier to organize so they remained on the program. Since the speeds were lower it was also safer. In the early 1980s the Auto moto club started also with attractive motocross races. They built the racetrack in village Šempas. The racers from Nova Gorica were successful in motocross and karting and this was the award for sport workers of the Auto moto club Nova Gorica.
