Abstract

Title:Ergonomy of school population
Abstract:
Nowadays, during school, as well as in other extracurricular activities, students spend a lot of time sitting (during lessons, in front of the TV, at the computer). This also reduces their daily activity, which is reflected in the children’s health. In the literature review, I focused mainly on the issues faced by schoolchildren in developing countries, mainly in India, Iran, Iraq, Thailand, and Bangladesh. I displayed similarities and differences that occur in different school populations, and I showed that there are big differences in physical characteristics of children and furniture in classrooms. The most common difficulties that the children faced were inappropriately highchairs, inappropriately deep chairs and an inappropriate height between the chairs and the tables. I also displayed the differences between ages and genders. In order to prevent the occurrence of these mental and physical problems, we must take care of the appropriate ergonomically designed furniture, as well as the appropriate acoustics in school classrooms. In the master thesis I described anthropometric and ergonomic measurements of school furniture in these countries, I made a comparison between them and I devised a proposal for a correct use of ergonomic furniture because this will also reduce the later problems and consequences in adulthood and prevent the emergence of MSD.
