Abstract
Ustrezni članki so bili iskani s pomočjo elektronskih bibliografskih baz Digitalne knjižnice Univerze v Ljubljeni (DiKUL) in PubMed ter s pomočjo iskalnika Google učenjak. Iskali smo članke v slovenskem in angleškem jeziku. Uporabljeni so bili članki v razponu zadnjih 7 let, torej v obdobju od leta 2014 do 2021. Za izbiro ustreznih člankov smo uporabili metodo PRIZMA diagram. Rezultati: Na podlagi kritičnega pregleda literature smo oblikovali vsebinske teme, te so: izboljšanje fizičnega stanja starostnikov, preventivne strategije, ocenjevanje domačega okolja, prilagoditve domačega okolja, strah pred padci in učinkovitost preprečevanja padcev. Aktivni starostniki so vitalnejši.

Title:A safer life into old age without falling : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: In old age, safety is very important. Most common cause of injuries in the elderly are falls. We can prevent many injuries with activities to strengthen and maintain health. By lowering the number of falls we will reduce the number of injuries and consequently reduce treatment costs and the duration of hospital care. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to explore risk factors for falls and suggest strategies that enable seniors being safer in old age. Methods: A critical examination of work literature was used in preparation of this thesis. A search for relevant articles was made by using Electronic bibliographic databases Digital libraries of the University of Ljubljana (DiKUL) and PubMed and with the help of the Google scholar search engine. We searched for articles in Slovenian and English. We used articles from the last 7 years, ie in the period from 2014 to 2021. To select the relevant articles we used the PRIZMA diagram method. Results: Based on critical review of literature we designed content topics which are: improving the physical condition of the elderly, preventive strategies, assessment of the home environment, adjustments of the home environment, fear of falls and the effectiveness of fall prevention. It is most important to motivate the elderly to strengthen their whole body with various activities and maintain optimal physical fitness condition according to their abilities. Through exercise they strengthen holistically and in the event of falls fractures occur less frequently. With preventive care in the home environment with help of occupational therapists better opportunities for long-term care of seniors at home could be provided which would also relieve the health budget. An important challenge is to improve communication and cooperation with the medical profession. Discussion and conclusion: We worked hard throughout the discussion to determine what are the most common causes of falls in the elderly, which are the most common strategies and interventions that fall within the domain of occupational therapy to reduce the risk of falls in the elderly and how effective strategies are in preventing falls in the elderly. Active seniors are more vital. Organised training with professional trainers significantly reduces the number of falls and consequently the number of injuries to the elderly. With the advice of occupational therapists, the living conditions of the elderly are adjusted to make their home environment as functional and safe as possible. We believe the best choice would be multigenerational housing which would improve the quality of life for the entire population as well as inspire fullness, usefulness and joy in all stages of life.
