Introduction: Nowadays, dental photography represents a key part in dental services and serves as an indispensable tool for the practice. Regardless of how detailed a description of a certain clinical case may be, the diagnosis can easily be made from just the photograph in a matter of seconds. In some cases, a photograph can preserve long forgotten memories and can efficiently provide a more detailed description than words. If used properly, photographs can make the invisible - visible. Mastering the basics of photography and camera settings is of utmost importance in providing quality and reliable photos. Purpose: In our thesis, we wanted to explore the scope of dental photography, its applicability and effectiveness within the profession and to present simple techniques and settings for reaching reliable, reproducible results with minimal effort. Methods: We used a descriptive research method, based on the information we gathered studying scholarly literature and articles on dental photography in a dental office and dental laboratory. We have presented the most useful methods of dental photography, which can improve diagnosis and communication between dental technicians, specialists and patients, and can also facilitate visualization in education. Results: Our results show the specific equipment and tools necessary for dental photography, and describe in detail the standardized procedures for achieving quality clinical photographs in a dental office. We depicted laboratory photography, the extensive use and benefits of archiving products, and the stages of making dental prostheses. We also touched upon the artistic side of dental photography. Discussion and conclusion: We came to the conclusion that numerous statements taken from scholarly literature and reports from everyday practice emphasize the importance of dental photography in modern dental practices. Specifically, regarding clinical digital records, communication between the dentist, their patients and dental technicians, reviewing and managing previous cases, and providing visual material in presentations and publication. In addition, dental photography represents a fundamental part of successful marketing and establishing international connections in dental profession.
