Climbing is one of the most basic and natural forms of human movement and is important for an individual’s motor, cognitive and social development. Sport climbing has a positive effect in human movement as it helps solving spatial problems, positively affects coordination and body mobility, improves accuracy, and strengthens the torso, shoulder girdle and arms. In Slovenia, sport climbing has been gaining recognition and popularity in recent years. In addition, with the construction of climbing centres and presence of sport climbing events, the opportunities to engage in this sport have significantly increased. The main purpose of this master's thesis was to classify sport climbing as a part of school curriculum within the educational process as well as to create a manual for all educators, sport workers, climbing coaches and other organizers of sport climbing themed outdoor education programmes or summer climbing camps. The thesis describes all technical and organizational aspects as well as details the practical and theoretical content necessary for a successful and safe implementation of the sport climbing programme. In addition, it provides a practical example of good practice of a sport climbing themed outdoor education programme in a specific natural environment. The first part of this thesis presents basic information about outdoor education and sport climbing to assure easier organization and comprehension of the content. It includes practical and theoretical course content and the possibilities of implementing interdisciplinary connections in the outdoor education programme. The thesis concludes with the overview of the sport climbing themed outdoor education programme with technical aspects included. To facilitate the manual’s understanding and ease-of use, extensive, visual material is incorporated.
