Motiv demonov in zla v poganski umetnosti ter njihov vpliv na izoblikovanje motiva hudiča v krščanski umetnosti

Zaključna seminarska naloga je posvečena iskanju povezav med upodobitvami krščanskega hudiča v srednjem veku in podobami demonov ter božanstev v poganstvu. V uvodnem delu besedila je skozi različne literarne vire predstavljena zgodba padlega angela Luciferja. Besedilo se nadaljuje s poglavjem, posvečenim elementom poganstva, ki so vplivali na oblikovanje krščanske dogme. Zadnji del pa je osredotočen na analizo petih umetniških del, ki so nastala med 11. in 13. stoletjem. Ta dela potrdijo domnevo, da so kristjani določene poganske ideje prilagodili svojemu mišljenju in na podlagi tega oblikovali podobo hudiča ter koncept zla.

• Title: Images of evil in pagan art and their influence on the formation of the Devil in Christian art

Abstract

This graduation thesis is focused on finding relations between portrayals of the Christian Devil in the Middle Ages and images of pagan gods or demons. Firstly, the text concentrates on revealing the story of the fallen angel Lucifer through different literary sources. This continues into a chapter dedicated to elements of paganism that impacted the formation of Christian dogma. The last section focuses on the analysis of five art works that were created between the 11th and 13th centuries. These art works also confirm the idea that Christians appropriated some pagan elements and made them their own. With these elements in mind they then created the image of the Devil and the concept of evil.
