In the following thesis, I explore the position (and condition) of animals in human society and, through comparison with photography, address our perception of animals. The text also focuses on the issue of the human gaze, where I explore how human-animal encounters are altered and transformed in a society, defined by image overload. The discourse thus suggests that one of the most prominent characteristics of modern human-animal relationships is anthropomorphization, through which I substantiate the position of dogs in human society. The motif of a dog is explored through the entire text and, last but not least, shows itself as the central theme of my own paintings, in which I address the fading sport of dog racing.
