In my dissertation I explore the establishment and development of a unique local identification; especially during the 19th century, when the concept of nation was established in public opinion; and the relationship between local and national identification in the past and present. on the case of the population of Bela krajina, which is a conglomerate of people with different national, ethnic and other identifications. Bela krajina is the southeastern part of the Republic of Slovenia. Throughout history, the province has changed administrative authorities many times, and several times it was administratively separated from other provinces in today's country. Bela krajina is as well a crossroads of several ethnic communities. In the 15th and 16th centuries, two Uskok communities were established: people of Žumberak near Metlika, who belong to the Greek Catholic religious system, and villagers of Marindol, Bojanci, Miliči, Paunoviči, where the Orthodox live. In addition to constant contact with Croats, in the last century workers from other republics of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia began to immigrate to Bela krajina which became textile and small industrial center.
