The diploma paper deals with cataloguing of older monographic resources at the University Library of Maribor. The purpose of the research was to examine and present the issues that cataloguers face while processing older monographic resources. We wanted to determine the most common problems in cataloguing this type of resources and the competencies required from cataloguers working with older monographic resources. We chose interview as the research method and used a dedicated sample of cataloguers with permits to catalogue older monographic resources in the COBISS system. Results have shown that the greatest problem is in transcribing data from the cover page, which is entered into block 2XX, i.e. the main description block. Cataloguers also mentioned problems with retrospective records marked RETRORK, as such records are not of high quality. They believe that cataloguers of older monographic resources should have appropriate competences. In addition to formal education, cataloguers should have knowledge of at least two foreign languages and different types of fonts. Research has also shown that they want a new manual for cataloguing older monographic resources.
