Abstract
Sledi opis trenutnega stanja ikone, vzrokov nastanka poškodb in predlog potrebnih koservatorsko-restavratorskih posegov.

Title:Proposal for conservation-restoration intervention on icon in the collection of the National museum of Slovenia
Abstract:
My Diploma thesis Conservation-restoration intervention plan of the panel painting from the National Museum of Slovenia collection, consists of a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part I describe the current state of a concrete artworkand present how it was made. In the practical part I focus on the production of thetehnological study of the original and the restoration plan. My Diploma thesis has four main parts. In the first part I describe thegeneral use of materials throughout history and how to combine them on the presented icon. I research the characteristics of the materials andtechniques used inthe icon production. In the second part I discuss a concrete example I worked on. The selection of working methods and used materials were influenced by my previous experiences, mentor's decisions, professional literature and the results of scientific research. I describe the current state of the icon painting: the carrier, substrate, painted layers, metal and finishing layers, all of which have an influence on the final appearance of the artwork. After that I determine the damage caused by time and weathering and suggest conservation-restoration interventions. In the last part I describe the significance of copying. The decision to make a tehnological study comes from my desire to get to know the piece inside and out; to study its structure and materials. I try to grasp the essence of iconography. My main point is to show the public how the painting looked like at the time of its creation as it isnow hidden beneath the layers of aged and darkened varnishes.
