This diploma thesis deals with the issue of corroded metal elements in wooden artifacts. The content includes research on the mutual influences of metal and wood and the course of conservation and restoration treatment when they are encountered in cultural heritage objects. Metal elements are present in many wooden works of art, so I wanted to get better acquainted with their purpose and function, chemical and physical relationships between wood and metal, the problem of corrosion and repair of damage that can be caused by a combination of these two materials. My work was mainly based on researching professional literature, and I then transferred the acquired knowledge to practical examples, which I presented in the last chapter. I performed metal element removal procedures, conservation-restoration treatment of a wooden military chest, and an aging experiment of protective coatings for iron.
