Abstract
It is essential for ESL/EFL teachers to constantly improve their teaching skills and incorporate methods and techniques that cater to students’ individual learning styles and needs. The thesis focuses on the benefits of drama and its influence on learner motivation. It also presents several techniques for incorporating drama activities, explains the teacher’s role in the ESL/EFL classroom and introduces a possible classification and description of certain types of drama and theatre activities. Through the observation method and analysis of student questionnaires, the thesis confirms the positive effects of drama on classroom atmosphere, learners’ well-being and development of their language skills. A survey targeted at ESL/EFL teachers examines the frequency and ways of incorporating drama and theatre activities into the ESL/EFL classroom. Despite the highlighted advantages of drama, which improve pupils’ mastery of the English language when prepared effectively and integrated appropriately, the use of drama as a teaching method is often overlooked.
