The thesis aims to create a collection of women's clothing. The concept of the whole work is based on the history of the circus. I focused on the year 1871 when one of the most famous wonder shows »The Greatest Show on Earth« was created. Its organizer Phineas Taylor Barnum offered a new opportunity to individuals who were considered freaks by society. In this work, I present five of the most recognizable individuals who served as the main inspiration for the silhouettes.
The theoretical part contains in-depth research into the history of the circus and the infamous P.T. Barnum. I focused on the golden age of the circus, a time when society rejected the unconventional appearance of the individual and a time when freakshows were widespread. I presented five of the most recognizable oddities and their anomalies. In the theoretical part, I also included some collections by renowned fashion designers who draw inspiration from the circus. I gave a brief historical overview of differences in society and how social norms influenced the lives of outcasts. Revolt against society led me to anti-fashion because it glorifies the essential values of each individual and tries to blur the rules of society. Finally, I turned my attention to sustainability. It served as a reminder, which is increasingly important in contemporary society and contemporary fashion. Also, exploring sustainability helped me to introduce it in the final collection.
The practical part presents the design process and the concept of the collection. The concept and the mood of the collection are presented through collages which served as the basic basis for the collection. The materials, color palette, silhouettes, and target group are described. The collection is based on five representatives who are characterized by either an innate or an artificially created peculiarity. In the practical part, I have also covered the color palette and the fashion and technical sketches. The color palette and details are designed to be easily associated with the circus and are typical of it. The thesis aimed to create a wearable collection called Miracles. The final presentation of the collection is a set of fashion photographs.
