Abstract

Title:Variability of Feminative Suffixes -ica and -ka Between Norm and Use
Abstract:
In this thesis I discuss the problem of inconsistent normative prescription arrangement in later editions of Slovenian basic language manuals, as well as the related diversity of the usage of feminative suffixes -ica and -ka, proven in larger text corpora. The comparison is reinforced by results of a survey questionnaire, conducted among language workers, proofreaders, translators, radio and TV announcers, and teachers. The findings from all sources of language use indicate a tendency of distinguishing between feminative suffixes -ica and -ka whether they are used to form a feminative for a woman or an institution, country etc.
