Several reactions using different molar ratios of cobalt(II) nitrate hexahydrate and 2-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine in selected solvents (acetone and acetonitrile), were performed. Two new compounds, [Co(OH2)2(2hmp)2](NO3)2 and [Co(2hmp)3](NO3)2, have been prepared. When compound with ligand to metal molar ratio of 3:1 was synthetized, solvate crystals were also formed.
The products were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, CHN elemental analysis, thermogravimetry and Xray powder diffraction, crystal structure determination from single-crystal diffraction data was also performed. In case of unstable solvate compound, only its crystal structure was determined.
