During flight extraordinary events might take place, for which pilots can be either well or poorly trained. Flight preparation is a key element of flying and should be done by pilots thoroughly before every flight. Pilot emergencies and emergency landings preparation process including various operational procedures, rules and dangers when landing away from runway are analyzed in this paper. Comparison between emergency procedures, applicable to three most popular general aviation aircraft in Slovenian airspace was completed, including calculated landing distances in equal flying conditions. Difference between normal and autorotative descent is shown for helicopters. With the help of Google Earth and Geopedia, areas where emergency landing can take place are found along GAFOR routes or transit legs. Emergency landing areas are determined based on available landing distances, terrain types and angles. Pilots are provided with photo images, explanations, and suggestions in order to interpret the area and choose it as suitable for landing. That would help a pilot while preparing for a flight or during execution of an emergency landing while flying along Slovenian GAFOR routes.
