The following Master’s Thesis compares three literary works and their authors, all originating from different literary periods. The subject of observation were mostly the subliminal rules of society and their influence on the perceived dignity and status of individuals from different social classes, ranging from prostitutes to the count himself. These protagonists have shown a contrasting understanding of social rules, their own dignity, and their status. Comparing the authors has shown many similarities and some differences in their thinking as well.
