The main purpose of this work was to analyse the blocking - a technical-tactical element of handball, typical for the position of the pivot. The work is of monographic type, and we have systematically reviewed, translated, and summarised the role and tasks of the pivot from databases (DiKUL, PubMed and Google Scholar), using both domestic and foreign literature. Some morphological characteristics and motor skills of the players at the position of circle forward are listed. There are also some examples of training to improve the physical abilities of the pivot. In the following, we describe in detail all types of blocking, the characteristics of blocking and unblocking, and the methodological procedures. We have also shown the gradual introduction of blocks from 1 : 0 to 6 : 6 play and 7 : 6 play. By analysing matches from world, European and national competitions, we have shown with practical examples some of the possibilities of working with the pivot in the context of group tactics and playing combinations of group tactics using pivot blocks in different defensive positions. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the pivot block is one of the key elements of team in the offence group tactic in handball. The recommendation is to start the full development of the pivot at an early age in the younger categories. The principle of universality is also considered, so that it is recommended that players from all other playing positions also learn how to set up blocks.
