Abstract

Title:Reception of Byron in Slovene Literary Tradition of the Nineteenth Century and Its Comparison to Slovak Situation
Abstract:
This bachelor thesis explores the reception of Byron and Byronism among Slovene literary writing and the Slovene literary criticism. It focuses on the stance of Slovenian writers and literary critics towards Byron, particularly their view on his literary works, as well as his personality and (political) activity, and his influence, which includes the dynamics of the translation of his works into Slovenian language. Furthermore, Slovenian reception of Byron is compared with Slovak one. Common elements of both receptions of Byron and Byronism in Slovene and Slovak sources from the 19th century are examined. Additionally, the main similarities and differences are delineated between both national literary traditions’ stances towards Byron and possible reasons for them are offered/described/suggested.

Keywords:English literature, English poets, Romanticism, George Gordon Byron, translation into Slovene, Byronism, Slovenian reception, Slovak reception
